Jumbo (or non-conforming) mortgages are for homes that exceed the maximum loan amounts allowed for conforming home loans by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

In most of the country, a loan is considered jumbo if it exceeds $510,400. In areas deemed “high cost” by the Federal Housing Finance Agency, however, the limit can be as much as $756,600.
