We are searching for a Communications Manager for our Oakland headquarters in the City Center area of Oakland, California, near the 12th Street BART station. We are looking for someone to develop and implement cross-functional communication strategies to enhance the understanding of CFCU’s collective contributions to Chevron employees, family members and contractors. This involves teaming with senior leadership and other managers to translate credit union communication objectives into specific communications pieces that aggressively seek to extend the reach of the credit union’s message to current and new audiences through multiple channels.
Responsibilities: The Communications Manager leads the integration of communications efforts across CFCU departments and branches to ensure all are working within the credit union’s brand/image.
- Develop strong relationships with Chevron communications counterparts to build support for integrated messaging is an important aspect of the position.
- Direct, design and cultivate well written storytelling used in the credit union’s newsletters, brochures, fact sheets and other print and digital vehicles to convey news and information about CFCU’s products, services and achievements to internal and external audiences.
- Oversee and cultivate content development, acting as initial point of contact for vetting and assignment of communications service requests from CFCU departments and branches. Manage resources to optimize work and project delivery.
- Conduct research to determine marketing messages and positioning to most effectively market the credit union in a single-common-bond environment.
- Manage and coordinate multiple communication projects from inception to completion to ensure development, implementation and distribution of consistently positive and effective materials and messages, on time and within budget.
- Direct use of digital media in support of marketing initiatives, including mail campaigns, multimedia products, social networking marketing and other emerging new media tools.
- Oversee and direct outside consultants and vendors to ensure quality and compliance with brand guidelines.
- Consistently assess new and existing vehicles for reach, effectiveness and return on investment.
- Propose and direct creation of new communications vehicles as appropriate to serve departmental and branch needs.
- Writes and/or edits effective and grammatically correct copy for newsletters, promotional materials, letters to members (customers), website, and other documents as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- A high percentage of attendance is also an essential function of this position.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing or a related field.
- At least five years of communications or marketing experience that includes developing and directing integrated communications programs and writing content for marketing materials, newsletters, the Web, etc.
- Demonstrated success working in a cross-functional environment.
- Proven ability to adapt to changing communications needs, adjust pace to work and tolerate ambiguity as well as to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a strong results/goal orientation. Superior interpersonal, teamwork and collaboration skills, with demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with senior management and key individuals within the organization.
- Proven ability to work well under pressure, managing a variety of communications initiatives simultaneously and under tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated knowledge of multiple media used for communication as well as experience that demonstrates an understanding of how best to use established and emerging technologies to leverage and extend reach of content and credit union messaging.
- Strong professional judgment, with proven ability to be a creative and critical thinker and problem-solver.
- Ability to read and interpret information on systems and documents such as account information, written agreements, vendor contracts, and procedure manuals.
- Proven skill in written communication that demonstrates the ability to craft messages for a diverse array of audiences and to express complex material in understandable terms.
- Proven skill in editing materials and publications for style, accuracy, format and punctuation.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to produce and interpret graphs.
- Proficient in the use of Word and Excel.
- Ability to effectively use all applicable banking and loan systems.
- Ability to effectively utilize Outlook and employee Intranet.
