History of the David P. Smay Scholarship

David P. Smay III volunteered for more than a decade on Chevron Federal Credit Union’s Board of Directors, serving many years as Chairman.

During his tenure, a number of milestones were achieved which continue to contribute to the growth and success of the Credit Union, including the introduction of online banking, the MarketEdge account, and fixed-rate mortgages.

Mr. Smay had an acclaimed 40-year career with Chevron Corporation and was well-loved and hailed as a leader in every position he held. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, retired as General Manager of Benefit Investments for Chevron, and finished his career as a Board Member of the Chevron Retirees Association. He was a true inspiration to all who met him.

The David P. Smay Scholarship is awarded each spring to graduating high school students who exemplify the values of high academics and leadership in the community. Each winning applicant receives a scholarship in the amount of $1,000.
